Testosterone injection volume calculator

Volume in mL is your dose in mg divided by the strength of your vial in mg/mL. On a U-100 insulin syringe, every 0.01 mL is one unit. Enter your prescribed dose and the strength printed on your vial, and see exactly where to draw to.

This is an educational estimate, not medical advice. It doesn’t recommend a dose. Real levels vary a lot between people; only a blood test shows yours. Talk to your prescriber before changing anything. Always check the strength printed on your vial label: 100 vs 200 mg/mL doubles the volume.

How it works

Diagram of a 1 mL U-100 insulin syringe and a 3 mL Luer-Lock syringe: unit and mL markings, the dose read at the front edge of the plunger stopper, and a thicker draw needle swapped for a thinner inject needle.
On a U-100 insulin syringe 100 units fill 1 mL. Read the dose where the front edge of the plunger stopper meets a line.

Testosterone for injection is an oil with a fixed amount of hormone in every millilitre. The strength is printed on the vial: 200 mg/mL is the most common in the US for cypionate and enanthate, and 100 mg/mL and 250 mg/mL also exist. To find the volume of a dose:

mL = dose in mg ÷ vial strength in mg/mL

Insulin syringes are scaled for U-100 insulin, where 100 units fill exactly 1 mL. So the unit marking is just volume × 100. A 0.3 mL syringe ends at 30 units, a 0.5 mL syringe at 50 and a 1 mL syringe at 100.

With a Luer-Lock syringe, many people draw the oil with a thicker needle and then twist on a thinner one to inject; your pharmacy or prescriber will tell you which needles to use. Insulin syringes have a fixed needle, so the same needle draws and injects.

We round the volume to 0.001 mL and the units to the nearest half unit, the finest line anyone can read on these barrels. The per-week figure multiplies one injection by how many you take in a week; for every-3-days and every-other-day schedules that is an average week.

Subcutaneous injections are usually small volumes, often under 0.5 mL. If your volume is over 1 mL, check with your prescriber how they want it given.

Questions

How many units is 100 mg of testosterone at 200 mg/mL?

100 mg ÷ 200 mg/mL = 0.5 mL. On a U-100 insulin syringe 1 mL is 100 units, so 0.5 mL is 50 units. At 250 mg/mL the same 100 mg is 0.4 mL, or 40 units.

How do I convert mg to mL for testosterone cypionate?

Divide your prescribed dose in mg by the strength on your vial in mg/mL. The answer is the volume in mL. Most cypionate in the US is 200 mg/mL; some vials are 100 mg/mL, and compounded vials can be other strengths.

What are units on an insulin syringe?

Insulin syringes are marked in units for U-100 insulin, where 100 units fill 1 mL. When you use one for testosterone the units are simply a volume scale: 1 unit = 0.01 mL.

Which syringe size should I use?

Use the syringe your prescriber or pharmacy supplied. Smaller barrels (0.3 or 0.5 mL) have wider spacing between lines, which can make small volumes easier to read. If your volume is larger than the barrel, it will not fit in one draw.
